Terms, safety, health & allergies
These terms apply to makeup services, trials, and on-location bookings with Makeup by Sahar in the United Kingdom. They are written to support clear communication between you (the client) and the professional makeup artist (MUA), to reduce health risks, and to place UK product-safety context in plain language. They do not reduce your statutory rights as a consumer where applicable.
1. Agreement
By requesting a quote, paying a deposit, or attending an appointment, you agree to these terms. If you book on someone else’s behalf, you confirm you have their authority to accept these terms and that they have read the health and allergy sections.
2. UK cosmetic products & the law (context)
Finished cosmetic products placed on the Great Britain (GB) market must be safe, correctly labelled, and meet GB rules (retained from EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, as amended in UK law). In practice, this includes requirements such as a Product Information File (PIF), a Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) for each product, good manufacturing / quality processes, a responsible person (RP) for GB, appropriate claims, and (where required) notification via the Submit Cosmetic Product (SCP) service. Makeup by Sahar is a service business (application of professional makeup). Unless otherwise stated, commercial cosmetic products used in our kit are sourced from professional brands intended for use in line with the manufacturer’s instructions and current GB rules.
Clients with severe or unusual allergies should check INCI (ingredient) lists on product packaging; your artist can discuss reasonable alternatives, but cannot guarantee a product is free of trace allergens in every case. If in doubt, consult your doctor or a dermatologist before booking.
3. Allergies, sensitisations, and patch testing
- Disclose before the appointment all known cosmetic allergies, contact dermatitis, hay fever with skin reactivity, asthma triggered by dust or sprays, and any reaction history to make-up, latex, adhesives, hair colourants (e.g. PPD), or metals.
- “Natural” is not the same as “safe for you.” Fragrances, plant extracts, and essential oils can still trigger allergy or irritant reactions.
- Common sensitivities to mention include nut-derived oils, lanolin, gluten-related concerns if relevant, shellac in some products, and rubber/latex in gloves, lash bands, or tool grips.
- Patch testing may be recommended where hair colour, strong adhesives, or new-to-you product categories are involved; follow your artist’s and manufacturer’s advice.
- If you develop redness, burning, swelling, hives, wheezing, or eye swelling during a service, say so immediately. Application can be stopped, product removed, and, if required, you should seek medical care.
4. Health, skin, and communicable conditions
You should inform the MUA in advance of:
- Active or suspected skin infections (e.g. impetigo), widespread dermatitis or eczema flare, undiagnosed rashes, or open wounds on the face or neck.
- Eye conditions (e.g. conjunctivitis, styes) or cold sores in the treatment area — application may be refused or limited until resolved to protect you and others.
- Contagious illness (e.g. chickenpox, measles, mumps) — the appointment may be rescheduled.
- Recent laser, chemical peel, micro-needling, or strong retinoid use that leaves skin fragile or photosensitive, so timing and product choice can be adjusted.
Withholding material health information that affects safe application may limit our ability to perform the service and may affect any claim related to a reaction.
5. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and medical care
Bridal and event makeup is not a medical service. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, undergoing treatment, or on medication, please disclose this so the MUA can avoid certain ingredients or methods where appropriate and can refer you to your GP, midwife, or consultant for any medical question. Final decisions about what is safe for you medically rest with you and your healthcare provider.
6. MUA: hygiene, safety, and professional practice
The makeup artist will work in a way that reflects professional standards, including: hand hygiene, clean or appropriately sanitised tools, disposable wands, spatulas, or single-use applicators where required to avoid “double-dipping” into pots, and avoiding application directly onto obviously infected, broken, or weeping skin (unless a limited approach is safe and agreed). Airbrush or aerosol use may be discussed if you have respiratory sensitivity.
Where a health or safety issue arises, the MUA may refuse, adapt, or stop a service. That decision is to protect you, the artist, and other clients — it is not discriminatory in those circumstances.
7. Your kit vs professional kit
Where you ask the artist to use your own products, you accept responsibility for their condition, hygiene, and suitability. The artist may patch-test or decline use if a product appears unsafe, expired, or unsuitable. Professional outcome cannot be guaranteed with unknown third-party product.
8. Photography, data, and marketing
Photography, filming, and use of images for social media, portfolio, or training require the consent agreed in your booking. Personal data (contact details, event information) is processed to deliver the service; see our privacy notice when published. Processing is subject to UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 where applicable.
9. Deposits, cancellations, and conduct
Deposits, reschedules, and cancellation windows follow the quote or contract you receive at booking. Abusive, intoxicated, or unsafe behaviour may result in the service being ended without a refund, at the artist’s reasonable discretion.
10. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence where the law does not allow such limitation, or for matters that cannot legally be limited. Save as above, our liability in connection with any booking is limited to the amount paid for that booking. We are not liable for reactions, loss, or disappointment resulting from (a) failure to disclose allergies or health information, (b) use of your own or third-party products, or (c) circumstances outside our reasonable control.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to mandatory consumer rights you may have in your home country if you are an individual not acting in the course of a business.
